Our story

We are volunteer puppy raisers for Southeastern Guide Dogs, Inc. based out of Florida. Our role as puppy raisers is to socialize, encourage, and train the pups to be happy and confident, which is a springboard to become a guide dog for the visually impaired.

We are currently raising our second puppy, a female yellow Lab named Stross, who was born Dec 3, 2011.

Our first pup, Smokey, was returned to SEGDI headquarters for final training in March 2012. He was 14 months of age when we surrendered him back to the school. We raised him for approximately 12 months.

Smokey has passed his health exams and his temperament exams. He is now being trained by a certified trainer. After 4-6 months of professional training, Smokey will be matched with a visually impaired person to become a service/companion dog.

This blog is intended to share our experiences raising guide puppies. We welcome any questions you might have about Smokey, Stross, or the puppy raising program in general. We hope you enjoy following our adventures in puppy raising!
